Environmental study work

Tsushima's rich seas and mountains are a valuable asset and an important natural environment that should be passed down from generation to generation.
The waters of Tsushima are blessed with an abundance of marine life, including fish, shellfish, and seaweed, and the complex coastline features beautiful scenery, typified by its ria coastline.
By experiencing the sea of Tsushima through environmental studies, we hope to convey the importance of Tsushima's nature and have more people enjoy and understand the splendor of Tsushima.

Intermediate support organization operations

The "intermediate support organization" is an organization outlined in the "Tsushima City Coastal Debris Countermeasures Promotion Action Plan" published by Tsushima City in March 2015, and is an organization that connects the government and private sector to promote measures to combat marine debris, including coastal debris on Tsushima Island.

Tsushima CAPPA has been commissioned by Tsushima City as an intermediary support organization to work on measures to combat driftwood on the island.

For details about our activities as an intermediary support organization, please see the Tsushima Marine Debris Information Center website .

Message from the CEO

Yoshiki Ueno, Representative Director of Tsushima CAPPA General Incorporated Association

Tsushima Island is home to a rich natural environment that is world-renowned, including the Tsushima wildcat. However, due to its location at the entrance to the Sea of Japan and close to neighboring countries in East Asia, large amounts of garbage continue to wash up on the shores of the island.
The amount of marine litter on Tsushima is extremely high compared to other parts of Japan, and it is not only a scenic problem, but also a major issue in terms of damage to the fishing industry and preservation of the marine environment. In order to address this situation, a voluntary organization called the "Beautiful Tsushima Sea Network" was established in 2013 by volunteers on Tsushima Island, and since that year, they have been holding the "Japan-Korea Coastal Clean-up Festival in Tsushima" every year together with Korean students and volunteers.

In June 2017, the General Incorporated Association Tsushima CAPPA (Tsushima Kappa) was established based on the abovementioned voluntary organizations with the aim of further advancing measures against beach waste on Tsushima Island.
In addition to holding the beach clean-up events mentioned above, Tsushima CAPPA also carries out public awareness activities related to measures to combat marine debris, including washed-up garbage, and one of its goals is to act as an "intermediate support organization" that cooperates, coordinates, and shares information between the Tsushima City government and citizens, private organizations, and other parties involved in marine debris.
In addition to its work as an intermediary support organization, Tsushima CAPPA also conducts environmental study work. Through these environmental study work, the company aims to establish rules for marine leisure activities on the island in cooperation with fishermen on Tsushima Island, and to conserve and increase the value of the marine and coastal environment as a tourism resource.

Tsushima CAPPA aims to put these activities into practice and gather the passion of each and every one of us who live on this island, and to pass on the beautiful sea and coast of Tsushima to future generations. As with the "Beautiful Tsushima Sea Network," we would appreciate your continued guidance and support.
